The summer, a time for happiness and good vibes etc. How about increasing those feelings with some time spent peacing out? Mindful flow and yin style yoga, time spent outside, meditations, indulgent massage treatments and fun and laughter with a group of other like minded people. These are all ways that we can nurture ourselves to keep the good vibes coming.
Last March I hosted my first Ayurveda focused retreat here at Potash Barns, Suffolk with the aim of balancing the Kapha dosha coming into Spring. We loved it so much that I immediately booked some more dates!
On 19th June 2020 I bring you the next instalment of your Ayurvedic journey - Pitta. During the Summer months Pitta becomes elevated in us all, but as you can guess even more so in those who are dominant in the dosha.
This retreat is ALL about the chill vibes. A weekend to literally just slow down and encourage that sense of coolness from within.

If it turns out you’re Pitta then this is where you need to be.
For Pitta - the fire element, summer is like fighting fire with fire. When you get so much heat, an explosion can happen any time. That could be in the form of an angry shout off, skin conditions such as acne, rosacea, psoriasis or rashes, heart burn, or complete and utter burn out.
We’ve all experienced these things at some point and so I believe that we could all do with learning how to pacify that heat when it erupts and to maintain our inner balance over the summer regardless of your doshic quality.
During this retreat we will be practicing yoga daily, with a morning slow flow and evening yin style class each day. I will guide you through meditations created to let you unwind and you will experience the most chilled thing of all - yoga nidra (yogic sleep). I aim to create a welcoming environment for all abilities and so will offer you lots of options in your practice. I would advise that you need to be ok with walking up a flight of stairs (the studio is on the first floor of a barn) and that you are able to get up and down from the floor.
To help you better understand Pitta and how to pacify and create balance we will get together for a talk on Ayurveda complete with a workbook for you to take home and keep.
As well as a weekend of yoga and Ayurveda, we will take some time out for an optional day visit to Southwold for a trip to the beach and the pier.
Of course no retreat is complete without a treatment, and even better this will be from the comfort of our home for the weekend. From personal experience, our therapist Tracey is just the best in the business. All who came on the last retreat felt totally blissed out.
About Potash Barns
Set amongst stunning countryside, the three barns and yoga studio have been beautifully restored to provide a unique and comfortable retreat space. The barns have been designed as shared spaces with their own kitchen and cooking facilities and so you are welcome to bring extra food or drink to have alongside the delicious homemade meals that will be provided to us by Claire, the barns owner. As well as the kitchen, there is a lounge space, two bedrooms with either a king size or two dreamy beds (depending on your preference) and a bathroom which is shared with the other retreat guests in your barn (maximum 4 people).
Some guests come with a friend and others come solo. If you are planning on coming on your own and opt for a shared room, don’t worry you will be thoughtfully placed with another solo guest. This worked really well on the last retreat and all women made some wonderful connections.
The decor reflects the country surroundings with much of the original features retained. Each barn has a log burner as well as heating in each room (if needed but I’m sure you’ll be craving a cool breeze during the summer). For group meals and for the workshop we will gather in the large communal lounge set in the heart of the two larger barns where you can find big, soft sofas and a huge dinning table and benches. This space is also a lovely area to come and relax, reading a book or just to have a chat.
The yoga studio is gorgeous with floor to ceiling glass windows on either side allowing for beautiful views of the countryside. We will have use of the equipment including mats, blocks and bolsters. So no need to bring anything, although it’s always nice to have your own. This is where we will practice our morning and evening sessions, a place where you can forget the world outside and a place where you can focus on the present moment.
