The Self Care Retreat
Time & Location
About the Event
Join me from Friday 18th – Sunday 20th June 2021 for a self care immersion for up to just 10 people. Set in the Suffolk countryside, you will find Potash Barns. A beautifully restored and converted collection of Grade II barns with comfortable 4 star accommodation including a kitchen and lounge area complete with log burner making your stay cosy and relaxed. I have chosen this retreat centre specifically for its serene warmth as well as its size to facilitate an enjoyable retreat for a small group. Offering you a more intimate and personalised experience. With less people, you will receive tailored exert guidance and the space you need to decompress with peace and quiet.
Included in your weekend are daily yoga and meditation sessions, a workshop, all meals and drinks, a 25 minute treatment and an exclusive retreat gift bag. Read on to find out more...
With 2020 being the most surreal time of most of our lives the unusual time could have felt anxiety provoking, which is why, now more than ever self care needs to be an essential part of our lives. Pre lockdown we were all buzzing around busy with our lives, and then suddenly having to stop and slow down may have helped you to notice how good it feels to take some time to do the things you enjoy, with people you love spending time with. It’s important to be able to maintain some of that slower pace so that we can be more present for ourselves and our loved ones. In this retreat, you will get the chance to do just that – slow down and encourage your mind to be in the present.
At Potash Barns, Government guidelines regarding Covid-19 are of the upmost importance, so you can feel confident in the knowledge that you are staying in an environment that is considerate, responsible and safe. We have measures in place that respond to the latest government advice to ensure that you can relax, enjoy your time and feel assured that you are in the safest hands.
We will be enjoying daily yoga sessions in the purpose built yoga studio, with a view over the Suffolk fields, or outside in the beautiful grounds. Yoga will include a morning energising flow and evening chilled yin style. It would be recommended that you bring your own mat for practice, as well as a cushion/yoga block and blanket to make your practice as comfortable and supportive as possible.
All classes will be offered to all levels, with plenty of options for each movement and pose ensuring that you can practice in a way that feels right for you. If you have a specific requirement for an injury, medical condition or disability, please do let me know and I can ensure that the class is completely accessible for you. This includes use of a chair for your practice and if you are pregnant, I can also accommodate your needs within the class. All classes will end with time spent in relaxation to help you feel calm, centred and clear.
As well as yoga classes, you will have the option to take part in group guided meditation sessions. Meditation is a great way to bring self care into your day to day life. By spending just 5-10mins either listening to a guided meditation or by finding some time for quiet inner focus on your own, it gives your brain and mind a rest from the thousands of thoughts you have every day. It also helps your body to regulate its systems and hormones – including reducing cortisol (stress) levels and blood pressure. In the sessions we do together, my aim is to make them as easy to practice as possible. If you are a beginner this is a great place to start!
Potash Barns provides comfortable, clean and high quality 4 star shared accommodation. With three barns offering two twin bedrooms, a shared bathroom, lounge and kitchen. Two of the barns are connected with a communal lounge and dining area. There is a large dining table or plenty of seats and tables outside if you wished to eat alfresco. All barns have been renovated to maintain some of the lovely original features, which have inspired the country style décor. There are all the mod cons you need to make your stay a home from home, including access to complimentary teas and coffee. All you need to bring are your own towels (bed linen is provided) and toiletries.
If you are coming as a solo guest you have the option to stay in a room on your own (single occupancy rates apply) or you can be placed with another solo guest (depending on government guidelines). If you are coming with a friend/partner you will be placed in a room together. If coming with your partner, some rooms can be modified into a double room instead of a twin.
All meals will be served as vegetarian, if you have specific food requirements these can be catered for. You will be served lots of freshly cooked meals, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner with dessert. There will also be snacks, such as homemade cake as well as fruit readily available. With plenty on offer, you won’t be going hungry. Of course, you are more than welcome to bring extra snacks or your preferable foods and drink to store in your barn kitchen. This retreat is not a no-alcohol weekend, so if you wish to bring your tipple of choice this is welcome however we ask that you respect the other guests who may not be drinking alcohol during their stay.
Throughout the retreat we will be discussing selfcare, and what that means for you, different techniques and practices and swapping ideas. Upon arrival, in your room you will find your own personal workbook to help you delve into selfcare and the ancient system of Ayurveda (yoga’s sister practice), where you can discover your unique mind-body type (dosha) and what self care practices will be most balancing for you.
On Saturday afternoon, we will get creative in painting mandalas. Mandalas are beautiful creations that are commonly found in yogic imagery. Some are ancient symbols linked to the chakras or have sacred connections. However, the mandala that you create can have whatever meaning you choose to give it. With a natural canvas of a unique stone, I will guide you through using acrylic paint to create your mandala pattern using dots and beads. Let your creativity flow. At the end of our creative session we will practice a meditation, which will be balancing for all mind-body types. The action of creating and focusing on the mandalas has a calming effect on the brain and brings our mind in to the present moment. An incredible way to practice selfcare and mindfulness.
During the retreat weekend you will be treated to a 25 minute treatment of your choice with our in house massage therapist (she comes very highly recommended from person experience, and from previous retreat guests), you can choose from hot stone massage or reflexology.
Please note that although I will make every effort to ensure that this retreat is as accessible as possible, the yoga studio is up a flight of stairs on the first floor of a converted barn. I will be available for a private session if you would prefer, which can take place in the main barn space or in the lounge area in your own barn accommodation (this will be an extra charge). We have a ground level barn available if you need avoid stairs, with both bedrooms, bathroom and lounge/kitchen facilities on one level.
If you are pregnant, to be able to take place in the classes you must be in your second trimester onwards.
