Join me for a weekend to reconnect. From 6th - 8th November we will be working with Vata dosha to encourage a feeling of balance, grounding and resilience to the change in the seasons. 

 

As we head into winter the temperature feels colder, the leaves are falling down, the air feels crisp and the weather can feel windy and stormy. All of this movement in the air and change in the season can elevate Vata creating an unsettled feeling, anxiety and lack of concentration. This time of year can even leave some of us (especially those dominant in Vata) feeling bloated and uncomfortable within. 

 

Connecting with the earth energy, also known as grounding is the perfect tonic to pacify Vata. Bringing back harmony and balance is key in maintaining good mental health and wellbeing for mind, body and spirit.

During this retreat we will be practicing both yoga and pilates to help you build a feeling of strength and stability. Building up an awareness of the core or 'centre' of the body through pilates can help Vata bring their attention inwards taking them out of their head and into their body. Feeling strong and stable brings Vata back down to earth creating a supportive foundation. 

Our yoga practice will be Hatha based with plenty of pauses between the poses, allowing for time and space for introspection. Our focus will be on building strength and foundation by holding poses for long periods of time and working with the 'bandhas', Uddiyana Bandha (abdominal engagement) and Mula Bandha (pelvic floor engagement). This slow but strong sequence will naturally inspire mindfulness and a connection to the sensations in the body giving the opportunity for self-study. 

Each day I will guide you through meditations aimed at deepening your connection to the earth energy and exploring the root chakra, Muladhara; and we will work with traditional Pranayama (breathing) techniques that are designed specifically for pacifying Vata. 

 

I aim to create a welcoming environment for all abilities and so will offer you lots of options in your practice. I would advise that you need to be ok with walking up a flight of stairs (the studio is on the first floor of a barn) and that you are able to get up and down from the floor. 

 

To help you better understand Vata and how to create balance we will get together for a talk on Ayurveda complete with a workbook for you to take home and keep. 

 

As well as a weekend of yoga, pilates and Ayurveda, we will take some time out for an optional day visit to Woodbridge to explore the town and its foodie favourite eateries. 

 

Of course no retreat is complete without a treatment, which will be from the comfort of our home for the weekend. From personal experience, our therapist is the best in the business. All who came on the last retreat felt totally blissed out.

ABOUT POTASH BARNS

Set amongst stunning countryside, the three barns and yoga studio have been beautifully restored to provide a unique and comfortable retreat space. The barns have been designed as shared spaces with their own kitchen and cooking facilities and so you are welcome to bring extra food or drink to have alongside your daily delicious vegetarian meals. As well as the kitchen, there is a lounge space with log burner, two bedrooms with two dreamy beds (all rooms are twin) and a shared bathroom (maximum 4 people). 

 

Some guests come with a friend and others come solo. If you are planning on coming on your own then don’t worry you will be thoughtfully placed with another solo guest. This worked really well on the last retreat and all made some wonderful connections. 

For group meals and the workshop we will gather in the large communal lounge set in the heart of the two larger barns where you can find big, soft sofas and a huge dinning table and benches. This space is also a lovely area to come and relax, read a book or just to have a chat.

 

The yoga studio is gorgeous with floor to ceiling glass windows on either side allowing for beautiful views of the countryside. We have ample equipment for all including mats, blocks and bolsters. So no need to bring anything, although you're welcome to bring your own. This is where we will practice our morning and evening sessions, a place where you can forget the world outside and a place where you can focus on the present moment.

This is just to give you an idea of what our weekend might look like. I will be spending time drawing together inspiration for the retreat and so this schedule is subject to change. During your stay you will have time for your treatment with our amazing in house therapist, more details regarding your choice of treatment will be shared with you ahead of time.
